Located in southwest Idaho, Lake Lowell boasts a large bass population for those who like to fish. Other fish species, such as sunfish and catfish, also thrive in the 8,800-acre lake. Catfish are regularly stocked by Idaho Fish and Game, making fishing opportunities plentiful. Twenty-eight miles of shore surround the lake, as do roads leading to access points. Fishermen can easily launch watercraft from one of several boat ramps on the lake, one of which is located at Lake Lowell Park. Note that the lake has motorboat horsepower restrictions that you’ll want to check before you arrive. Lake Lowell sits at 2,500 above sea level and provides great ice fishing in the winter once the ice is safe to access.

Lake Lowell’s most popular fish are largemouth and smallmouth bass, bullhead catfish, bluegill, yellow perch and white crappie. Open boat season for Lake Lowell is April 15 through September 30. Bowfishing is a recent popular activity here.

Lake Lowell is highly accessible. There are two managed park areas along the north shore and other, smaller access points along the south shore. Lake Lowell Park has a launch ramp. When the ice is safe, you will find some good ice-fishing spots on this big reservoir.

Lake Lowell fishing is not permitted within the upstream and downstream boundaries of fish traps and weirs. There are numerous, very specific rules pertaining to catches from Lake Lowell (which change depending on the season) so definitely check before your trip to ensure that you know the bag limits for both the species you wish to catch and the area of the lake you intend to visit.
